I recently had the opportunity to listen to a Full Group Coaching Session with Robbie Swale and the Coach’s Journey Community. It was an incredibly insightful experience, showcasing the power of gathering individuals to tap into each other’s wisdom. One standout contribution came from Joey Owen, who shared a powerful three-step tool that she found particularly helpful during her daughter’s teenage years.
Here’s a summary of her approach:
- Right Now, I Am Noticing: Acknowledging your current feelings and thoughts.
- My Highest Intention Is: Identifying your core intention, which requires reflection and self-awareness. (You have to have done some work to know what that is.)
- I Choose To: Deciding on a specific action to take next, often as simple as taking a deep breath to create space for clarity.
This reminds me of what Harvey Specter said in Suits: You Always have a Choice.
True.
By practising this tool, you can expand the space between stimulus and response, allowing for more thoughtful and intentional choices in challenging situations.
Joey talks about this at about 1 hour 24 minutes in or, if you’re interested in exploring the entire session, listen to it here.
